Whistler Kokanee Crankworx 2008

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Yesterday I headed up to Whistler to lay my eyes on some of the world’s best Mountain Bikers.
This is by far Whistler’s biggest summer event, with sponsors lining up the village and people’s shocked faces as they witness riders huck themselves off huge dirt jumps and wooden ramps.

This event was Whistler’s first project with Mobile Muse. I was asked to go up and document the project. So what was their project?? Well for the Garbanzo Downhill and Jeam Beam Air events a few people were chosen to stream from  cell phones to the jumbotron below in the village.

This was a really cool way to have user generated content be involved in the overall end production below in the village. Cell users went around the event streaming the riders from the top of the race, all along the track and down in the village. This worked extremely well and people felt more interaction with the event and gained more interest in what was going on.

I realized how useful this technology would be for the upcoming 2010 Olympics.
Millions upon millions of user generated content is created during the Olympics and kept online but not broadcasted for others to see on TV or basic coverage.

Anyway,  everything went very well and the weather was amazing!

Here are some Photos from the day:
